SRINIA CHOWDHURY
Srinia Chowdhury (b. 1987, Patna, India) completed her Bachelor’s in Fine Arts from the College of Art, Delhi in 2010, and her Master’s in Fine Arts from the Government College of Art and Craft, Kolkata in 2012.
Her practice is focused on satirical commentary, challenging gender stereotypes and advocating for self-acceptance as a rebellious act, reflecting upon the contrast between her carefree childhood and the dichotomy of social expectations as an adult. Influenced by Pop-art, Picasso, and the Bengal School of Art, Srinia’s art is characterized by expressive clay modeling in a distinctly illustrative style and the bold use of colours.
She has participated in various symposiums and residencies in Germany, Australia, Lithuania, Russia, Poland etc., and most recently the 12th International Ceramic Art Symposium, Rothko Museum Daugavpils (Latvia, 2024). She was the recipient of the Jyotsna Bhatt Ceramics Award from the Ark Foundation, Baroda in 2022, the Lalit Kala Research Scholar (Ceramics) in 2022, the Junior Research Fellowship from the Ministry of Culture in 2018-19, the Bronze Medal in Ceramics from the Prafulla Dahanukar Art Foundation, Mumbai in 2017 etc. In 2021, her sculpture was added to the Mark Rothko Museum in Latvia. Her selected exhibitions include Mirror Mirror on the wall, curated by Annapurna Madipadiga, Champatree Art gallery (New Delhi, 2024), On Paper of Paper, curated by Ankon Mitra at India Design Fair, presented by Apparao Art Gallery (New Delhi, 2024), By the Phoenix: Through the Fire, curated by Kristine Michael, Anant Art Gallery (New Delhi, 2024), among others. Srinia is currently based in New Delhi.
