RITWIKA GANGULY
Ritwika Ganguly (b. 1999, Kolkata, India) graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from Kala Bhavana, Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan in 2022, followed by a Master of Visual Arts in Creative Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda in 2024.
Her work draws deeply from her lived experiences of people, places, and the temporalities she inhabits. Through this, she explores the ways of seeing and perceiving the human mind, its association with matter, and the complexity of socio-cultural conditioning in the context of visual symbols and their existence in time and space. Ritwika’s practice is invested in extricating these symbols from their quotidian contexts, allowing their simplest, negligible existence to approach people in their distinct ways. The emphasis on ephemeral, innocuous moments unfolds through a meticulous, time-intensive process aimed at remaining still with the fleeting fragments of an unknown narrative.
Ritwika has participated in notable exhibitions across India and internationally, including the Kochi-Muziris Students’ Biennale (2022), Poetics of Everyday, Apre Art House (Mumbai, 2024), Imaginarium 4.0, Emami Art (Kolkata, 2024), as well as exhibitions at Hong Kong Baptist University and LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore. Her animation practice has earned her collaboration with filmmaker Prakash Moorthy and contributions to projects such as the feature film Ram Nam Satya Hai. She has been awarded the third prize at the Art Futures Asia Awards, Hong Kong Baptist University (2023–24), and the Peers Residency, KHOJ, International Artists’ Association (Delhi, 2025).
