BHIMANSHU PANDEL
Bhimanshu Pandel (b.1995, Jaipur, India) is a visual artist-researcher based in Rajasthan, India. He completed his BFA from Faculty of Fine Arts, Maharaja Sayajirao University (MSU), Baroda in 2016, his MFA from Edinburgh College of Art in 2018, and his MAS (Master of Advanced Studies) in Design for Luxury and Craftsmanship from École cantonale d’art de Lausanne in 2019. He is currently a participant in the Studio Catalyst mentorship program by Anant Art Gallery.
His practice concerns ecological practices prevalent in the dry desert landscapes of this region. His family’s rural and agrarian origins inform much of my artistic sensibility, and he incorporates studies of non-human matter such as native shrubs and cacti-weeds which are accorded a sacred significance, regional myths that permeate daily life, cultural tools, rocks and natural minerals of the region etc. in attempting to understand and unearth living histories of the indigenous communities in the region. The inspiration for his botanical studies for drawings stems from the knowledge that in Rajasthan, where little grows, each plant serves a purpose that is sacred and intrinsic to the rhythm of agrarian life. Similarly, his sculptural works also emerge from domestic agrarian spaces through a hauntological exploration of collective memory.
He has been a part of numerous group exhibitions, including: Latent Echoes at Indigo Art Museum, Ahmedabad (2025); Mirror Mirror at Anant Art, Noida (2024); Our Conspiring Hosts: Of Rivers, Vines and Microbes with Anant Art at Bikaner House, New Delhi (2024), Expanded Disciplinarity, Chapter 1: Constructing Painterly Relations, Art Centrix, New Delhi (2024), and many more. He has been the holder of The Emerging Artist Award, South Asia, The Arts Family London (2021), The Scottish Glass Society Prize (2018), the Nasreen Mohammedi Scholarship (2014), etc.
