DAKSHAYANI CHIPPADA
Dakshayani Chippada (b. 1998, Vizianagaram, India) completed her BFA in Printmaking from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam in 2019 and her MFA in Printmaking from the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Gujarat in 2021.
Her practice has evolved from explorations in printmaking to drawing as the primary medium. In her drawings, she explores the inclusion of materials like copper wire, running stitches and weaves, to highlight and enhance the aesthetics of often neglected spaces. Having acquired the skill of copper wire weaving from her grandfather who came from a family of goldsmiths, her works address the evolution of relationships over time and how they reflect upon present, personal and collective experiences with objects and spaces. In her visual practice, objects and spaces thus become the subject, working as extensions of the self.
Dakshayani has exhibited her works at the India Art Fair (New Delhi, 2024), Prepositions – 2, O79 | Stories Gallery (2024, Ahmedabad), Rekindled Spirits, curated by Ruby Jagrut, Bikaner House (2022, New Delhi), Emerging Palettes Edition-13, Shrishti Art Gallery (2022, Hyderabad), Kochi Muziris Biennale (2018, Kerala), etc. She was part of the NEXT-STEP Residency at 1Shanthiroad Studio, Bangalore in 2022. Dakshayani is currently based in Vadodara, India.
