ANISH CHAUHAN
Anish Chauhan (b. 2003, Gujarat, India) received a Diploma in Painting from B.A. Mehta Kala Mahavidyalaya, Amalsad in 2023, followed by a Post Diploma in Creative Painting from The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda in 2025.
Grounded in abstract and surrealist traditions, his work reflects an ongoing inquiry into how memory reshapes our understanding of time and space. Working primarily with poster colours on tinted sheets, Anish’s paintings serve to collide the notions of order and chaos, past and present, reality and imagination. Drawing from street art, graffiti culture, hip-hop culture, tattoo and pop art, he builds dense surfaces through distorted perspective and pulsating forms. Intuition plays a central role in his process, allowing each work to emerge as a site of excavation where personal memory, collective symbols, and urban energy fuse evoking a sense of continuous transformation. Rather than offering fixed interpretations, his work encourages viewers to navigate the terrain of their own inner worlds.
He has participated in numerous group exhibitions including the Annual Art Exhibitions of the Art Society of India (Mumbai, 2022–2025), and The Bombay Art Society Annual Exhibition (2022). His work has been recognised with awards including the N.S. Bendre Award for Best Painting (2021), Best Entry, Bronze Medal and Late Shri S.L. & G.S. Haldankar Award from the Art Society of India (2024), and prizes from Gujarat Lalit Kala Akademi and other regional institutions. Anish is currently based between Valsad and Vadodara, Gujarat.
